The OCDI - CARITAS / TOGO was founded by the Bishops' Conference and recognized by the government in 1967. It is a non-profit organization of the Catholic Church in Togo. The purpose of the OCDI is to organize Christian charity and to help people to embody the charity of Christ in their lives. Historically, the first Christian community quickly understood that an effective practice of the virtue of charity requires an organization. This structure is the OCDI, which is present at national, diocesan and parochial level in 7 dioceses. Today, the OCDI is mainly active in the areas of healthcare, rural development, village water supply and women's empowerment. The most important partners from Western Europe are: Manos Unidas, Misereor, Missio, Caritas Germany, CCFD, a French development agency and Secour Cathoique (Caritas France).
